Graduates joyfully celebrate their achievements at the worker education and job training program ceremony.

Harambee House marked a major milestone on July 19 as it celebrated the graduation of its 19th cohort from the Worker Education and Job Training Program. The ceremony, attended by over 40 guests, recognized 11 graduates who successfully completed the intensive 10-week training program, which prepares individuals for meaningful employment and career advancement.

The program is designed to empower participants with both foundational and technical skills essential for workplace success. Core components of the curriculum included study skills, math, computer literacy, job readiness, and life skills. Graduates also received comprehensive technical training, earning certifications in:

  • HAZWOPER (40 hours)

  • Hazmat (24 hours)

  • Asbestos Removal (32 hours)

  • Mold Remediation (16 hours)

  • OSHA (30 hours)

  • Weatherization/Energy Efficiency (40 hours)

  • Construction (40 hours)

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response (24 hours)

To support their journey, participants received a weekly stipend, a worker starter kit—including steel-toe boots, a hard hat, gloves, and other essential tools—and job placement assistance upon graduation.

The ceremony featured a moving musical performance by local artist Melody Famble, and the keynote address was delivered by Beverly Trotter, founder of Savannah Youth City, who inspired graduates with words of encouragement and a call to community leadership.

This transformative program is made possible through the generous support of Bloomberg and the CEAR Hub at Georgia Tech, whose commitment to workforce development and community empowerment continues to create lasting impact.
