On November 15, the Pin Point Betterment Association and Georgia Tech CEAR Hub hosted a community event to officially unveil an exciting new addition to the Pin Point neighborhood—the John Anderson Sr. Community Garden. Community members and partners gathered to celebrate the garden’s progress and recognize the collaborative efforts that made this project possible.

A special moment of the unveiling was the acknowledgment of John Anderson Sr.’s generous land donation, which provided the foundation for establishing the garden. His contribution reflects a deep and lasting commitment to the health, resilience, and well-being of the Pin Point community.

The event also celebrated a donation from The Reparations Project, which funded a new garden shed that will serve as an essential storage and operations hub for emergency equipment. Plaques were installed on the shed to honor the donors and commemorate the shared efforts that helped bring this vision to life.

In addition, the Pin Point Betterment Association received funding from Georgia Tech’s Center for Sustainable Communities Research and Education (SCoRE) to support the installation of an irrigation system and smart rain barrels, further enhancing the garden’s long-term sustainability.

During the event, attendees learned how to reserve plots in the community garden and received seeds for planting—efforts aimed at increasing access to fresh, healthy food. Community members also heard updates on Pin Point’s diverse resilience building projects, such as community-wide tree trimmings, traffic control measures, youth engagement, air quality monitoring, funding applications, and drainage improvements. The gathering not only celebrated the tangible progress made but also strengthened the relationships and shared purpose that continue to guide this work in Pin Point.
